Components and assemblies used within Seattle Safety’s metal-halide lighting systems are listed below and illustrate the superior design, maneuverability and serviceability of our overhead floodlighting systems.Lightweight and rigid aluminum box housings with louvers, holes, and other features are produced to tight tolerances and are finished with attractive metallic high-temperature paint or powder coat finish for a clean and professional appearance to all Seattle Safety lighting fixtures. The box length and the number of lamps are customized for each application, with a maximum of 6 lamps, ballasts and igniter units. The lighting boxes are mounted within supporting structures to form banks; these banks are specifically designed by Seattle Safety to meet specific customer illumination requirements. Tungsten halogen and metal halide systems both have extremely intense light sources, the filament and the arc, respectively. In contrast fluorescent light is diffused at its source. The low source intensity allows a systems that does not create hot reflections. Furthermore the lower light intensity means that lamps that are in an opposing camera view are less
likely to cause lens flare or blooming.

Modern high speed video surpasses film in every metric except dynamic range. Fundamentally sensor response is linear to the number of photons falling on the pixel, whereas the eye has a logarithmic response to light. For this reason a shadow that does not appear too deep to the eye can be impenetrable in the video. Similarly highlights can be blown out, obliterating detail. For analysis purposes flat even light minimizes these problems and also increases exposure latitude so operator camera setting accuracy is less critical. The floodlight systems are configured to evenly and effectively illuminate the entire sled in the impact zone, with a minimum of shadows, and produce excellent results. Lamp placement reduces the chance of lamps appearing in the field of view in multicamera setups. Good crash test photography requires a diffuse light source to avoid harsh, dark shadows. Tungsten systems are usually diffuse, as they use a large number of lamps so the light strikes the subject from many angles.

The tungsten lighting system is made up of multiple PAR64 lamps in specific housings to provide ample light with the ability to illuminate the desired field.

The lamps have a long service life (approximately 800 hours) providing uniform distribution of light with 3200 color temperature rating. The rugged construction design has been used in setting such as stage, studio and film lighting as well as other dynamic testing facilities. The lamps can be restarted immediately after being turned off for easy on/off ability. Systems can be supplied in 200V, 208V, 220V, 240V, or 277V versions and can be specifically sized to provide the intense light needed for rotary prism film cameras or very high frame rate video cameras. This lighting system provides exceptionally high quality lighting with minimal setup effort.

The primary features of the Tungsten Lighting System include:

No Delay – No warm up or cool down periods, no waiting to reach full power; turn tungsten lights on and you’re ready to test.
